Our first featured writer was Mark SaFranko. This time round we invited Adelle Stripe to take the helm and she’s done us proud. By way of background, Adelle’s poetry, prose and music journalism have been published in all the right places, 3:AM, Rising, Scarecrow, Savage Kick and Laura Hird to name a few. She is also the editor of her own litzine Straight from the Fridge. Her poems appear in the Brutalist anthology 'Nowhere Fast' alongside poetry by fellow Brutalists Tony O'Neill and Ben Myers. Her debut solo collection is 'Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid', published by Blackheath Books. Beat the Dust is very pleased to have the opportunity to showcase so much of Adelle’s new, unpublished work all in one place, with illustrations by one of the most talented artists in London right now, Lisa Cradduck. Alongside Adelle’s poems and stories are her answers to questions posed by the great and the good of the underground Brit lit and music scenes. So, close the curtains, grab yourself an Old Legover (umm, it’s a beer!) and a bag of Seabrook Crisps and have a read of the August issue of BTD at www.beatthedust.com… but don’t tell yer mum what yer doing… or more to the point, Adelle’s mum what she's been doing! The September issue of BTD will be a return to the usual format so get writing and send us your very best work: www.melissamann.com/send-a-submission.asp by 24th August 08.

America versus the UK, not that i'm promoting nationalism or anything. i'm just shittalking. but you know what they say: beef creates publicity. and no, i don't really want beef, i'm vegan. i wanna have sex with everyone.

I haven't run any of the brutalists. Who is the off-beat generation?
Shit-talking IS great for publicity, but it takes a lot of work, and nobody really has my ire going right now.

Somebody on here accused Tao Lin of being all style and no substance. I think that's why their crowd doesn't submit to the Jargon.

i like tao lin. i wrote him a letter telling him he should submit. i think submitting here and getting in would be the way to comeback whoever said the all style no substance remark.

Below is a link to an article about the Offbeat Generation - though for some reason it fails to mention the female Offbeaters (careful how you say that - ahem), which is strange given the article was written by a woman. The Offbeat Generation anthology is due out in Dec 08 on the Social Disease imprint. I'm in it which I guess makes me an Offbeater so we have already infiltrated the TJ ranks. You published a story of mine Blow earlier this year - cheers for that! Article: www.litkicks.com/OffbeatWithAndrewGallix/
